Day 02 - exploring London
After a weird night of sleep where
I was wide awake at 2, then again at 3 and also at 4, I woke up to go to
breakfast and go on our tour of London. The morning started out a little rough with
nobody to sit with on the bus, but I just remained positive and focused on the
fact that I was getting to see the sights that I was so excited for like
Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Trafalgar Square, St. Paul’s
Cathedral and Parliament. When we were at Buckingham Palace, I ended up meeting
a girl named Brittany who was SO nice and we sat together on the bus and stayed
together for the rest of the day. She then introduced me to her friends Monica
and Chandler (Yes those are their names, yes they are dating, and yes it is
really freaking cute), and I went with them and Keegan (another guy from the
program) that day to explore a little more around London.
We ended up walking
along the water and seeing Big Ben, Parliament and the London Eye up close,
along with a bunch of other cool sites and buildings. After that we grabbed
lunch at Pret a Monger and went to the National Gallery. This was easily one of
my favorite things we did because I LOVE art museums and I got to see a lot of
works I had studied previously in my art history class. (Didn’t get to take any
pictures in here because my camera was too loud and my phone wasn’t working,
argh!)
After the museum, we took the tube
back to our hotel and split up to just relax and nap in our rooms before
dinner. Due to ongoing issues with my phone, I didn’t get their texts about
dinner and I just ended up eating my leftover room service and hanging out
alone in my room for the second night in a row. (I know, I’m pathetic) Not the
worst night though, because I got to watch a bizarre (yet extremely
entertaining) British dating show and packed my things for our 2:00am (!)
wakeup call for the flight to Rome the next morning.
